Come along with us on a journey through Croatia and touching on Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland.  Covering the length of Croatia we visit Rovinj, Plitvice Lakes, Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik as well as Salzburg in Austria, Lake Bled and Ljubljana in Slovenia and Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.

ITINERARY

Sunday 4 September

After checking in at Auckland International Airport enjoy some relaxing time at the Emperors Lounge. Today we depart Auckland at 12.10 pm and fly to Singapore. On arrival we are transferred to our hotel. One night Orchard Hotel located in the heart of the city’s premier shopping and entertainment district.

Monday 5 September

Today is free to enjoy Singapore at your own pace. Rooms are held until 6.00 pm. Tonight we are transferred to the airport for our overnight flight to Munich. (B)

Tuesday 6 September

Arrive Munich early this morning where we are transferred to Salzburg (Austria), the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and home of the “Sound Of Music”. Rest of the day at leisure. Tonight we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Two nights Hotel Elefant, Salzburg, located in the heart of the old town. (D)

Wednesday 7 September

This morning enjoy a fun rickshaw tour of the old town and see the best filming locations from the “Sound of Music”. Rest of the day at leisure. (B)

Thursday 8 September

This morning we take a scenic rail journey through the Austrian Alps to Villach located in southern Austria. From here we travel to Lake Bled (Slovenia) for a guided tour. With immense natural beauty, Bled, together with its surroundings, ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts, renowned for its mild, healing climate and thermal lake water. The beauty of the mountains reflected on the lake, the sun, the serenity and the fresh air leave visitors feeling revitalised. We then make our way to Ljubljana (Slovenia). Ljubljana is a picturesque town with pedestrian streets lining the river, great cafe culture and a castle on the hill with breath taking views over Lake Bled. Tonight we enjoy dinner inside Ljubljana Castle. Two nights Grand Hotel Union located in the heart of the city. (B,D)

Friday 9 September

This morning enjoy a tour of Ljubljana. Visit the picturesque central open-air market and the Three Bridges, Baroque Town Hall and Robba’s Fountain. Rest of the day at leisure. (B)

Saturday 10 September

This morning we travel via Postojna Caves to Rovinj (Croatia) located in Istria at the north of the Adriatic Sea. Istria is Croatia’s Italian region — and not just because it has a large Italian population. The pastel-coloured seaside towns of Istria could be straight out of Liguria; the rustic hill towns are reminiscent of Umbria. Istria is rich in vineyards and olive groves, wine and olive oil, along with truffles, are the most prominent exports. Tonight we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Three nights Monte Mulini Hotel located in a lush, centuries-old protected nature park and overlooking the bay. (B,D)

Sunday 11 September

Today we get to know Istria on a full day guided tour. We were plunged into an absolutely gorgeous atmosphere of hill towns and seaside villages, dramatic beaches and rose gardens, along with delicious wine, olive oil and truffles. (B)

Monday 12 September

Today is free to enjoy Rovinj at your own pace. Tonight we enjoy dinner in a local restaurant. (B,D)

Tuesday 13 September

This morning we travel via Opatija to Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatia), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Plitvice is one of the oldest national parks in SE Europe and the largest in Croatia. The national park is world famous for its lakes arranged like cascades. Rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Two nights Hotel Jezero, located in the national park. (B,D)

Thursday 15 September

This morning we travel to Split (Croatia), the second-largest city in Croatia. Split is a great place to see Dalmatian life as it’s really lived. Always buzzing, this exuberant city has just the right balance of tradition and modernity. Step inside Diocletian’s Palace (a Unesco World Heritage site and one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments) and you’ll see dozens of bars, restaurants and shops thriving amid the atmospheric old walls where Split life has been going on for thousands of years. To top it off, Split has a unique setting. Its dramatic coastal mountains act as the perfect backdrop to the turquoise waters of the Adriatic. Rest of the day at leisure. Enjoy dinner tonight at a local restaurant. Two nights Hotel Cornaro located in the centre of Split. (B,D)

Friday 16 September

Today we enjoy a full day guided tour of Trogir and Split. Trogir, located 25 km north of Split is a gorgeous and tiny town set beautifully within medieval walls, its streets knotted and mazelike. It’s fronted by a wide seaside promenade lined with bars and cafes, and yachts in the summer. Trogir is unique among Dalmatian towns for its profuse collection of Romanesque and Renaissance architecture (which flourished under Venetian rule); this, along with its magnificent cathedral, earned it World Heritage status in 1997. (B)

Saturday 17 September

This morning we make our way by ferry to the beautiful island of Hvar (Croatia), considered to be one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. The rich cultural and historic heritage of Hvar (that dates back to pre-historic times), unique gastronomy, beautiful beaches and bays , crystal blue sea and the hospitality of the local people are the guarantees of a holiday in Hvar you will always remember. Rest of the day at leisure. Tonight enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Three nights Hotel Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort located in a quiet bay with its own private beach. (B,D)

Tuesday 20 September

Today we travel by ferry and mini-van to Dubrovnik. George Bernard Shaw was enchanted by this beautiful city, about which he said “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”, as well as, famously, describing it as“the pearl of the Adriatic”. It really is a stunning city with an amazing Old Town, which became an UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. Two nights Hilton Imperial Hotel located metres from the city walls. (B)

This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Dubrovnik. Rest of the day at leisure. Tonight enjoy dinner at local restaurant. (B,D)

Thursday 22 September

Today we leave Dubrovnik and fly to Zurich (Switzerland). On arrival in Zurich we are transferred to Lucerne. Lucerne, sited on Lake Lucerne, is embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. Thanks to its beautiful lakeside setting and the nearby mountains of Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, the town is a firm favourite amongst those that visit. Tonight enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Two nights at Renaissance Lucerne Hotel located in the heart of Lucerne. (B,D)

This morning we are transferred to Zurich for our flight via Singapore to Auckland.
